Cookes are the East Anglian showroom for Wienbrock amps and cabs
From the truly amazing ME-1, which like the ME-3 and ME-5 you can get in either head or combo format, is full of tone and surprisingly easy to get your tone quickly. The 'boffins' at Wienbrock sure know their stuff! The ME-1 employs a pre-gain tone control with bass CUT and SHIFT switches that allow you to voice the amp to your particular guitar or playing style. Once you are there with the tone you can fatten the sound with a choice of two levels of boost from the dual triode power stage. The ME-1 will push up to 1Watt RMS of pure clean honey tone and loads of sustain.
The ME-3 was up next, and WOW what a beauty. 12 Watts of valve rectified bliss. A soulful clean to sizzling saturation and sustain...again and then some. The ME-3 has single input with pre-linked normal and bright channels, a vintage/modern voicing on the normal channel and a master tone control- all this keeping the amplifier uncluttered, simple to use and pure in tone with a 1950's USA appearance. The ME-3 is also available as a 25w head and combo known as the ME-3PRO.
We move on to the ME-5 which is built on the inspiration of late 1950 amp designs form across the pond. Grab your guitar. Plug it in. Close your eyes and just listen. When you finally arrive back in the room you remember just how much headroom this amp has (in fact it output up to 45watts RMS clean!). And with appropriate amount of front end gain to push the power stage into saturation whilst retaining clarity and natural sustain. Like the ME-3 the ME-5 features a single input, pre-linked Bright channels. Normal Volume, Bass, Treble, Midrange and Presence controls.
For those with a hunger for a classic British sound check out the ME-5 Barracuda. The Barracuda is a 'pumped up' version of the ME-5 which is a high gain 60watt tribute to late sixties and early seventies British Rock. The ME-5 Barracuda has high and low inputs. Plug into the first and you will certainly hear the high gain of this amplifier. The low input works well when you turn the amp up and work the output stage with really solid bottom end and all clarity you have always wished for.
The range and quality of cabinets impressed too. They feature quality of components from the hand made Tayden British Made loudspeakers. Their work with Paul at Tayden spans over three decades and we know his work really quite well. Then there are custom coverings available and, of course, beautifully assembled with the best ply available. There is even a 15” available.
Wienbrock amps are all Hand Made in the UK by a close knit team of 5 people. |
