The Dingwall D-Bird Standard bass design is simply taking inspiration from one of the most recognisable bass shapes ever made and making improvements on every single part of that original design. The neck dive associated with the original T-Bird is now gone, thanks to some clever countouring of the body to shift weight and balance, as well as rethinking the optimum placement of strap buttons to hold the bass in place.
The D-Bird Standard features a Khaya body (more commonly referred to as African Mahogany) which imparts a warm “woody” tone that accentuates the mid-range frequencies on clean settings and serves up a deep growl when overdriven. The five-piece Maple neck paired with a Pao Ferro fretboard gives strength and stability to your action and tuning.
The D-Bird Standard currently features a passive electronics system and makes full use of the variety of tones offered by the 3x FD-3n pickups, which originate from the designs derived from the collaboration of the late Glenn MacDougall of Fury Guitars and Sheldon Dingwall. Along with single volume and tone controls we find a 4-position rotary selector switch which allows you to dial in the solo bridge pickup, the bridge and middle pickups in parallel (for a MM-esque humbucker tone), the solo middle pickup (which does a very passable P bass tone) or the collosal sounding 'all on' setting which takes the parallel MM setting and adds the neck in series to give you a massive and entirely unique kick of power and depth.
