This pre loved Guild F-20 Troubadour is a parlor-style acoustic guitar built in the USA in 1979. The guitar and case do have significant signs of wear, which is to be expected considering their age, but all of these issues are purely cosmetic and they both function as intended.

Overview: Guild F-20 Troubadour (1979)

  • Model & Era
The Guild F-20 Troubadour, part of Guild’s F-series of small-bodied acoustic guitars, was produced from 1956 to 1987. These models typically featured a spruce top and either maple (early years) or mahogany (from 1959 onward) back and sides.

  • 1976 Design Update
Around 1976, Guild implemented design changes for the F-20: the body depth increased from approximately 4.125″ to 4.25″, and the scale length was extended from 24.75″ to 25.5″. Being a 1979 model, this F-20 reflects those revised dimensions.

  • Construction & Materials

    • Top: Solid spruce

    • Back & Sides: Solid mahogany

    • Body: Concert (small) body style—narrow waist, compact and player-friendly

    • Neck: Mahogany with a bound 20-fret rosewood fingerboard and pearl dot inlays

    • Bridge: Rosewood with white bridge pins

    • Headstock: Black-faced with screened Guild logo and three-per-side chrome tuners

    • Rosette & Binding: Multi-stripe rosette and multi-ply binding (top and back)

    • Pickguard: Tortoiseshell-style

  • Dimensions

    • Body width (lower bout): ~13.75"

    • Body depth: ~4.25" (post-1976 update)

    • Scale length: 25.5"

  • Tone & Playability
Despite its modest size, the F-20 delivers a surprisingly full and balanced sound with rich midrange, warm lows, and clear highs—perfect for fingerstyle, folk, and blues. Its compact size makes it especially comfortable for long playing sessions.

  • Historical Positioning
In the 1970s, Guild’s Westerly, Rhode Island factory was at its peak craftsmanship. The F-20 of this era is regarded as a well-built, highly playable instrument that continues to age beautifully over decades.
