This is what Taylor say about the Circa 74:
An Acoustic and Vocal Amp You’ll Be Proud to Leave on Display
Meet the Circa 74 — the vocal and acoustic guitar amp that delivers rich, room-filling sound, easy-to-use controls, and a clean, modern design that looks right at home in any living space.
What happens when a master luthier, an electronics expert, and a pro guitarist join forces? Pure harmony.
If you know Bob Taylor, you know he has a passion for precision woodworking and beautiful sound. So when he set out to design an acoustic amplifier using a stash of tonewoods that didn’t quite make the cut for guitars, he called in the perfect team. Before long, pro musician Terry Myers, electronics specialist Tyler Robertson, and master woodworker David Judd were in Bob’s workshop—where ideas were flying almost as fast as the sawdust.
Looks
The amp’s inviting sound is perfectly matched by its elegant visual design. Crafted in either mahogany or ebony/mahogany, the cabinet showcases clean lines and natural wood grain textures, echoing the timeless style of mid-century modern furniture. A retro-inspired fabric grille cloth and a beautifully designed wood stand complete the look, making the Circa 74 as much a piece of art as it is a musical tool.
Sound
The Circa 74 was thoughtfully engineered to soften the harsh, brittle highs often associated with acoustic amplifiers, delivering a warm, musical, and analog-inspired tone. Its sound profile is smooth and rich, yet retains the clarity and articulation acoustic players need. A key design choice was the use of a real wood cabinet—available in either all-mahogany or an ebony/mahogany combination—tapping into Taylor’s deep tonewood expertise to enhance the amp’s warm, room-filling character.
