Tony Iommi is rightly hailed as one of the founding fathers of heavy metal. Without his searing, uncompromising tone, the genre would never have taken the shape we know today. His name is forever tied to Laney Amplifiers, his iconic Gibson SG, and one more essential ingredient in his legendary sound: a modified boost pedal.
Introducing the TI-Boost — a meticulously hand-built pedal from Laney’s Black Country Customs range, designed to recapture that razor-sharp bite that helped propel Black Sabbath’s sound into dark, uncharted territory.
Modelled on Iommi’s original, custom-modded Range Master boost pedal, the TI-Boost sticks to a tried-and-true formula: expect a pronounced bass cut, a powerful mid boost, and a distinct clarity that cuts through even the most saturated overdrive or fuzz. But it doesn’t stop there — this modern reimagining adds extra EQ and gain controls, letting you tailor the tone to suit your own style while still delivering that unmistakable, old-school Sabbath sizzle.

“The iconic guitar tone of the first Black Sabbath album wasn’t just Tony – it was also the LA100BL amp and a Dallas Arbiter Range Master pedal. That combination pushed the amp into a gritty, distorted overdrive that had simply never been heard before.
Before Sabbath, Tony played in a band up in Cumbria, where a local guitarist offered to modify his Range Master. Tony agreed, not knowing what changes were made – but the results spoke for themselves. That mysterious modded pedal became a key part of his rig, used for recording and touring until 1979... when, for reasons known only to his amp tech, it was thrown away.
Ever since, Tony’s been chasing the ghost of that sound — the one that first sparked some of the most iconic riffs in rock history. Now, with the TI-Boost, he finally has it back.”
When Laney set out to recreate Tony’s legendary 1969 LA100BL amp, it quickly became clear they’d need a companion pedal to push the amp like the original Range Master once did. The result: the TI-Boost — Tony’s only officially authorised signature pedal.
Simple yet powerful, the TI-Boost features Drive and Volume controls, along with Low and High EQ dials and a switchable Mid boost that lets you fine-tune the frequency range. Paired with the LA100BL and LA412 cabinet, it delivers a tone that has echoed through generations of metal fans around the globe.
