Originally introduced in 1994, the Ibanez Talman guitars didn’t truly gain a cult following until after production ended in 1998. Now, the Talman is making a comeback—this time with the TMB30 short scale bass, which channels the tone and character of some of the most beloved vintage alternative basses ever made.
With a 30-inch scale length from bridge to nut, the TMB30 is noticeably smaller than standard basses. This shorter neck makes it more approachable for beginners, while seasoned players will appreciate the easier playability during long sets or extended sessions.
The reduced string tension of a short scale also affects the tone—delivering a punchy, midrange-heavy growl that cuts through the mix effortlessly.
The Talman body doesn’t follow traditional bass silhouettes, straddling the line between vintage and modern aesthetics. Despite its unique shape, it’s built with comfort in mind. The Poplar body adds some heft and contributes deep low-end resonance, while the Maple neck paired with a Jatoba fretboard provides clarity and attack for a well-rounded sound.
Keeping things simple, the TMB30 features a passive P/J pickup configuration using Ibanez’s Dynamix pickups. Modeled after the classic sounds of the ‘60s and ‘70s, these pickups deliver warm, vintage tones without the need for active electronics—perfect for players chasing that old-school vibe.
