A Faithful “Inspired by Gibson Custom” Recreation of a Beloved Vintage SG
The 1964 SG™ Standard with Maestro™ Vibrola brings back one of the most iconic SG model years ever produced. Famously played by legends like George Harrison and Eric Clapton, the 1964 SG Standard represented a major evolutionary moment for the SG line. By this year, the less user-friendly Sideways Vibrato had been replaced by the reliable Maestro Vibrola, the neck profile had grown slightly fuller compared to the ultra-thin early-’60s versions, and the SG’s balance, aesthetics, and overall feel had truly matured. It was also the first full year the SG officially dropped the Les Paul name.
Now, Epiphone proudly introduces the 1964 SG Standard Reissue with Maestro Vibrola—a stunning, meticulously crafted revival of that historic model. Created in collaboration with Gibson™ Custom, this is the most accurate Epiphone recreation of the 1964 SG Standard ever offered.
Every hallmark detail enthusiasts expect from the 1964 original is here: a one-piece mahogany neck with a long tenon for enhanced stability and sustain, a fast and comfortable SlimTaper™ profile, and a bound rosewood fretboard. It also features mother-of-pearl trapezoid inlays, an aged mother-of-pearl Epiphone headstock logo, and an aged mother-of-pearl Gibson crown inlay on the vintage-style “open book” headstock.
The center-seamed, two-piece mahogany body showcases the classic bevels that define a vintage SG and make it exceptionally comfortable to play. Electronics are equally true to form, with a pair of USA Gibson Custombucker humbuckers featuring Alnico 3 magnets, hand-wired to CTS® pots, Black Beauty paper-in-oil capacitors, and Switchcraft® components.
Finished in Vintage Gloss and paired with nickel hardware, including Epiphone Vintage Deluxe “Double Ring” tuners, this reissue delivers authentic vintage character inside and out. It also comes with a black hardshell case featuring Inspired by Gibson Custom graphics, gold hardware, and a goldenrod interior.
