The Les Paul™ Special has been a player favorite since its 1955 debut as an elevated alternative to the Les Paul Junior. Designed to sit between the Junior and the Les Paul Standard, it built on the Junior platform with a second pickup, added controls, and a handful of visual upgrades borrowed from the Standard—such as a bound fingerboard. Over the decades, the Special has appeared in numerous forms, from single- to double-cutaway models, but one constant has been its signature P-90 pickups. As iconic as the P-90 is, it represents just one voice in Gibson’s legendary pickup lineup. Now, Gibson is proud to unveil a fresh interpretation of this classic: the Les Paul Special with Mini Humbucker and P-90.

Available exclusively through Gibson and at Gibson Garage locations, this new Special pairs a mini humbucker in the neck position with a P-90 in the bridge. The mini humbucker, identical in size to a P-90 and slightly smaller than a full-size humbucker, drops right into the same cavity. It offers low-noise humbucking performance with a brighter, more open sound than traditional Patent Applied For–style humbuckers—blending the clarity associated with P-90s and the warmth of humbuckers, all without hum. Together, the mini humbucker and P-90 complement each other beautifully, unlocking a vibrant new palette of tones for the Les Paul Special.

This model retains the hallmark features players expect from a Les Paul Special: a solid mahogany body, a mahogany neck with a satisfyingly robust ’50s Vintage profile, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic dot inlays. Each pickup has its own hand-wired volume and tone controls using Orange Drop® capacitors. A wraparound bridge provides exceptional sustain, while Vintage Deluxe tuners with white buttons and a low-friction Graph Tech nut ensure stable, reliable tuning. Altogether, these elements deliver a wide range of expressive tones that expand on the classic Special’s sound while staying firmly rooted in the traditional Les Paul voice. A Gibson hardshell case is included to protect this distinctive Special wherever your music takes you.
