The Peavey HP2 combines cutting-edge technology, traditional craftsmanship, professional-grade upgrades, and custom features. When a guitar made in Europe carries the initials of Peavey’s founder and CEO, Hartley Peavey, players can expect a design that’s both iconic and distinctive.
While the HP2’s aesthetic is rooted in classic design, its carved top and offset, asymmetrical body make it stand out, offering superior comfort, perfect balance, and effortless playability. The top is crafted from maple, while the back uses basswood. These hardwoods were chosen not only for their striking appearance and weight properties but also for their distinct tonal qualities. The body is accented with cream or black-edge binding.
The birdseye maple neck and fingerboard provide exceptional stability and ease of play. Dual graphite reinforcement bars and a user-friendly, adjustable steel torsion rod further enhance the neck’s strength, along with the bolt-on neck construction and contoured heel. The oil-finished fingerboard, cut from the same piece of wood as the neck, ensures consistent color and grain patterns, with stress-relieved lamination for added durability. The HP2 features a 25 ½” scale length, 22 jumbo frets, and a 15” fingerboard radius. The 10-degree tilt-back headstock includes a 3+3 tuning machine layout with Schaller tuners, which feature pearloid or cream buttons. Chrome-plated hardware adds the finishing touch.
The HP2’s build and electronics are perfectly paired. Two custom-wound Peavey humbucking pickups deliver optimal output and tonal clarity. They are constructed using a two-step wax-dipping process for ultra-low noise and resistance to microphonic feedback. The pickups are mounted directly to the body, reducing high-volume feedback and enhancing tonal response. A Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch allows for easy selection of pickup configurations (up, center, and down). Additionally, the guitar includes a Peavey/Floyd Rose® licensed, double-locking tremolo system. The controls feature two push-pull knobs for volume and tone, allowing players to split the pickups individually for more tonal versatility.
