MPN: BMG-NAT
£649.00
This pre loved Brian May BMG Special is in near mint condition, apart from a few light playing marks on the scratch plate and a small chip on the headstock. It is a distinctive electric guitar modelled on Brian May’s legendary homemade “Red Special,” blending vintage character with unique, purpose-built features.
Body & Finish: It has a compact, semi-solid mahogany body with a striking Natural finish that shows off the wood grain. The look is understated and classic compared to the iconic red version, but still unmistakably Brian May.
Neck & Fingerboard: The neck is mahogany with a comfortable medium profile, topped by a dark fingerboard (usually ebony or similar), featuring dot inlays. The scale length is slightly shorter than a Fender-style guitar, contributing to its slinky feel and easy bends.
Pickups: Three specially designed Burns Tri-Sonic–style single-coil pickups are the heart of the sound. They deliver everything from glassy cleans to thick, singing leads with a distinctive midrange bite.
Electronics: Instead of a standard selector switch, it uses six mini switches:
Three on/off switches (one for each pickup)
Three phase switches
This allows for an unusually wide range of tones, including Brian May’s signature out-of-phase sounds.
Bridge & Hardware: A vintage-style knife-edge tremolo (floating vibrato) paired with locking tuners provides smooth pitch control and solid tuning stability. The trem is integral to May-style expressive vibrato.
Tone & Character: Sonically, the guitar excels at harmonic-rich leads, orchestral layered sounds, and articulate rhythm tones. It’s especially responsive to treble boosters and amps driven into natural overdrive.
Overall, the BMG Special Natural is not just a signature guitar—it’s a purpose-built instrument with a unique control system and voice, ideal for players who want expressive, characterful tones rather than conventional simplicity.
