This pre loved DigiTech Vocalist VHM5 is a classic early-1990s vocal harmoniser designed for singers, studios and live performers who wanted realistic multi-part vocal harmonies long before modern auto-harmony pedals became common. It is in excellent condition and includes power supply and manuals. Built in the USA during DigiTech’s highly respected early digital era, the VHM5 became known for its intelligent pitch tracking, rich harmony generation and surprisingly natural sound for its time.

The unit can generate up to four additional harmony voices alongside the original vocal, creating lush 5-part harmonies in real time. It supports both diatonic and chordal harmony modes, allowing harmonies to follow either a selected musical key or MIDI input from an external keyboard or sequencer. This made it especially popular with studio musicians and performers wanting complex backing vocals without recording multiple takes.

A standout feature is its built-in one-octave keyboard for quickly selecting harmonies directly from the front panel. The processor also includes automatic and manual pitch correction, programmable vibrato, vocoder functions, chorus effects, portamento and harmony humanising controls that slightly randomise pitch for a more natural ensemble sound.

Connectivity is extensive for its era, with balanced XLR microphone input, line inputs and outputs, MIDI In/Out/Thru and headphone monitoring. The VHM5 also offers deep programmability, including 128 factory presets and 128 user-editable programs with multiple variations.

Sonically, the VHM5 has a distinctly vintage digital character that many musicians still appreciate today. Rather than ultra-transparent modern processing, it delivers a slightly glossy, synthetic texture that works beautifully for atmospheric vocals, experimental music, classic pop harmonies and retro electronic production. It remains sought after by collectors and producers looking for authentic early intelligent harmoniser sounds.
