The Fender Blues Junior III is a compact, 15-watt all-tube guitar combo aimed at players who want classic Fender-style tones in a relatively small package. It was the third major version of the Blues Junior and has become particularly popular as a blues, rock, country and pedal-platform amp.
Power: 15 watts RMS
Power tubes: 2 × EL84
Preamp tubes: 3 × 12AX7
Speaker: 12-inch; standard versions commonly used an Eminence speaker
Channels: 1
Controls: Volume, Treble, Middle, Bass, Master Volume, Reverb
FAT switch: Adds a midrange boost for a thicker, more overdriven sound
Reverb: Built-in spring reverb
Rectifier: Solid-state
Impedance: 8 ohms
Weight: roughly 30 lb / 14 kg
The Blues Junior III has a warm, punchy and slightly gritty character. Compared with larger Fender amps such as a Twin Reverb or Deluxe Reverb, it has less clean headroom and reaches power-amp breakup at a much more manageable volume.
At lower settings, you get:
Warm cleans
Good note definition
A little compression and tube softness
A good platform for pedals
Turn the volume up and it develops natural tube overdrive—thick, crunchy and responsive to picking dynamics. The FAT switch pushes the mids and makes the sound noticeably fuller and more aggressive.
Although it's a Fender, the EL84 power section gives it a somewhat different character from the classic 6V6/6L6 Fender sound. It's less about huge, glassy American cleans and more about a compact amp that moves naturally from clean to bluesy breakup.

It's also loud for a nominal 15 watts. Fifteen tube watts is plenty for rehearsals and small venues, although getting power-tube breakup at home can mean playing surprisingly loudly.
