This pre loved Gibson Les Paul R8 is in excellent condition with some light aging
The R8 designation is used by Gibson’s Custom Shop for a true-historical reissue of the 1958 Les Paul Standard. These guitars are built with a very strong focus on replicating the look, feel and construction of the original late-1950s Les Paul Standards — the models that helped define the classic Les Paul sound. The “R” codes (like R8, R9, etc.) correspond to historical reissue picks within the Custom Shop range. Generally the R8 refers to the 1958 spec, typically with a chunkier neck shape than later reissues designed to reflect correct vintage dimensions.
Compared to other reissues:
R8 (1958) – Typically has a thicker, rounded neck profile and often a plainer maple top.
R9 (1959) – Usually slightly slimmer neck with more figured tops.
R0 (1960) – Slimmer “60s” neck profile.
Body: Solid mahogany back with a carved maple top.
Neck: Mahogany set neck with a chunky late-50s profile.
Fingerboard: Rosewood with trapezoid inlays.
Scale Length: 24.75 inches.
Frets: 22.
Pickups: Vintage-style humbuckers designed to replicate late-50s PAF tone.
Bridge & Tailpiece: Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece.
Finish: Nitrocellulose lacquer with lightly aged hardware.
Custom Shop Historic reissues use a specific serial number format inspired by original 1958–1960 Les Pauls.
For an R8:
The first digit typically references the reissue year model (1958).
The remaining digits usually indicate the production sequence number for that year’s R8 run.
An R8 is known for:
Thick, warm midrange
Strong sustain
Clear but rounded high end
Excellent dynamic response
The thicker neck profile contributes to a substantial feel in the hand and is often preferred by players who like traditional late-50s Les Paul ergonomics.
This Gibson Les Paul R8 serial no 61311 is a high-end Custom Shop historic reissue of the 1958 Les Paul Standard. It is built with period-correct materials and construction methods, delivering classic late-50s Les Paul tone, substantial neck feel, and strong appeal to both serious players and collectors.
