This pre loved 1977 Gibson SG in brown sunburst is a late–Norlin era version of the classic SG, combining the familiar double-cutaway design with the construction features typical of Gibson in the mid-to-late 1970s. It is in excellent condition with just a patch of wear to the nitro finish which is only visible at a certain angle.
Body and construction
Solid mahogany body with the SG’s thin, lightweight profile
Double cutaway for easy access to higher frets
Set mahogany neck, with a volute (a reinforced ridge behind the headstock)
Rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlays
Compared to 1960s SGs, 1977 models are usually a bit heavier and built with a stronger emphasis on durability.
Finish and appearance
Brown sunburst (often called walnut or tobacco-style burst)
More subdued and darker than the bright cherry finishes commonly associated with SGs
Gloss nitrocellulose lacquer
Chrome hardware rather than nickel (typical of the era)
Electronics and pickups
Medium output with a clear, slightly brighter edge than earlier PAF-style pickups
Standard Gibson control layout:
Two volume knobs
Two tone knobs
Three-way pickup selector
Tone and sound
Strong midrange with a tight low end
Slightly brighter and more focused than earlier SGs
Good sustain, though often described as a bit more “controlled” or less airy than 1960s models
Well suited to rock, blues, and classic hard rock
Kluson-style or Gibson-branded tuners (depending on exact spec)
Neck and feel
Generally a medium to slim neck profile (varies slightly)
Comfortable for both rhythm and lead playing
Stable construction due to the volute and reinforced neck design
A 1977 SG in brown sunburst is a solid, workhorse vintage guitar. It may not have the same collector status as 1960s SGs, but it offers dependable build quality, distinctive looks, and a slightly brighter, tighter take on the classic SG sound.
