The Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro is a professional 14-channel analogue mixer designed for live sound, home studios, project recording, and installed audio applications. An upgraded version of the original 1402VLZ, it features Mackie's XDR (Extended Dynamic Range) microphone preamps, which deliver low-noise performance, high headroom, and excellent audio quality in a compact format.

The mixer provides six mono microphone/line channels with balanced XLR microphone inputs and balanced or unbalanced ¼-inch line inputs, along with four stereo line input channels, giving a total of 14 input channels. Each mono channel includes an XDR microphone preamp, a switchable 75Hz high-pass filter, three-band fixed-frequency equalisation, an insert point for external signal processors, auxiliary send controls, pan control, Solo, Mute/Alt 3-4 routing, and a smooth 60mm fader for accurate level adjustment.

Two auxiliary sends allow flexible routing for monitor mixes and external effects, with Aux 1 switchable between pre- and post-fader operation. Two stereo auxiliary returns are provided for connecting external effects processors. The mixer also includes Mackie's EFX to Monitor function, which allows effects to be routed to monitor mixes independently of the main stereo output.

The routing section incorporates Mackie's Mute/Alt 3-4 system, enabling muted channels to be sent to an alternative stereo bus for subgrouping, recording, or additional routing options. Monitoring facilities include an AFL/PFL Solo system, dedicated Control Room outputs, headphone monitoring, and flexible source selection.

Connectivity includes balanced main outputs on both XLR and TRS connectors, balanced Alt 3-4 outputs, Control Room outputs, stereo tape inputs and outputs on RCA connectors, channel insert points, auxiliary sends and returns, and a headphone output. Global 48V phantom power is available for all six microphone inputs, allowing the use of condenser microphones.
