The ProCo RAT (1998) Black Distortion Pedal is a highly regarded example of one of the most influential distortion pedals ever produced. Known for its distinctive combination of gritty distortion, rich harmonics and impressive tonal versatility, the RAT has become a staple on pedalboards across rock, punk, alternative, indie and heavier musical styles.

Featuring the classic three-control layout of Distortion, Filter and Volume, the RAT offers a remarkably broad range of sounds. The Distortion control moves from gritty overdrive and crunchy rock tones through to thick, saturated distortion, while the Filter control provides a distinctive approach to shaping high frequencies, allowing you to achieve anything from sharp, cutting tones to darker, smoother sounds.

The 1998 example represents a desirable vintage-era USA-made RAT, retaining the familiar enclosure, straightforward controls and unmistakable sonic character that have made these pedals so popular with guitarists.

A classic piece of guitar effects history, the ProCo RAT remains highly sought after for its versatility, distinctive sound and enduring reputation.
