This pre owned item is in good condition with a few signs of light wear. There is some tarnishing to the hardware, a small chip on the body and some lacquer lines on the back of the body.
The Rickenbacker 4003S Jetglo is an American-made electric bass guitar. The "S" stands for "Special," denoting a version modeled after the vintage 1960s 4001S models historically used by bassists like Paul McCartney and Chris Squire. "Jetglo" is Rickenbacker’s signature high-gloss solid black finish.
Aesthetic and Ergonomics
The 4003S features an unbound maple body with smooth, rounded contours, which differs from the sharp, bound body edges of the standard 4003 model. The neck features classic dot inlays instead of the deluxe triangular pearloid markers and omits fingerboard binding. The Jetglo black gloss finish covers the entire body and neck.
Construction and Woodwork
The bass is built using neck-through-body construction, where a continuous piece of maple runs from the headstock through the middle of the body to support sustain. Solid maple wings form the curved body shape. Modern iterations feature a double-action dual truss rod system for neck stability and adjustments.
Electronics and Hardware
The instrument is equipped with two proprietary Rickenbacker single-coil pickups, independent volume and tone controls for each pickup, and a 3-way selector switch. The "S" model utilizes a single standard mono output jack rather than the dual stereo outputs found on the standard 4003. It is fitted with Schaller Deluxe open-gear tuners.
