Overview
A JHS Vintage single cone resonator guitar is a traditional resonator acoustic guitar produced under the Vintage brand and distributed by John Hornby Skewes (JHS). It is inspired by early 20th-century resonator designs that were created to project more volume before electric amplification became common. The defining feature is its single resonator cone, which gives the guitar a distinctive, cutting voice.

Body and Construction
The body is made from steel and finished in chrome, which contributes to its bright, metallic sound and strong projection. Inside the body is a single spun aluminium resonator cone, usually mounted with a biscuit-style wooden bridge sitting directly on top of the cone. String vibration is transferred straight into the cone, acting like a mechanical speaker. The neck is commonly mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard, joined to the body around the 14th fret.

Neck and Playability
The scale length is around 24.8 inches, providing comfortable string tension that works well for both fingerstyle and slide playing. The neck profile is generally traditional and supportive, making it suitable for open tunings and bottleneck techniques often associated with resonator guitars.

Tone and Sound
The single cone design produces a tone that is loud, direct, and characterful. It combines a warm low end with a pronounced midrange and a sharp, metallic edge on the attack. Compared to spider-bridge resonators, single cone guitars tend to sound more raw and bluesy, with strong punch and sustain rather than smoothness.

Style and Musical Uses
This type of resonator guitar is especially popular for blues, roots, country, folk, and bluegrass styles. It excels at slide guitar, ragtime picking, and rhythmic accompaniment where projection and clarity are important. Its sound cuts through well in acoustic settings without the need for amplification.

Overall Character
A JHS Vintage single cone resonator guitar offers classic looks, traditional construction, and an authentic resonator tone at an accessible price point. It’s well suited to players who want a vintage blues sound and feel, with plenty of volume and unmistakable character.
