The Westone Thunder IIIA is a distinctive Japanese-made electric guitar from the early 1980s, produced during Westone’s highly regarded Matsumoku era. It features a solid maple body with a comfortable, heelless three-piece maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, giving the instrument a solid feel and excellent sustain.
The Thunder IIIA is equipped with an H/S/H pickup configuration, offering a wide variety of tones from clean and articulate sounds through to powerful, driven rock tones. Its versatile switching system provides individual pickup selection, coil-tapping and phase options, allowing a broad range of tonal combinations.
A Precision-style tremolo system adds further flexibility, while the 22-fret fingerboard provides plenty of room for lead playing. The distinctive Bird W logo and 1980s styling add to its character, making it a particularly interesting example of Japanese-made Westone design.
Finished in Trans Black, the guitar has a striking appearance that suits its contemporary-for-the-era styling. The Thunder IIIA is an excellent choice for players and collectors looking for a well-built vintage Japanese guitar with plenty of tonal versatility and distinctive character.
