This is what Epiphone say about the 1963 Firebired 1:
Epiphone and Gibson™ Custom have joined forces once again to introduce the Inspired by Gibson Custom 1963 Firebird I — a faithful recreation of the groundbreaking guitar originally designed by renowned automotive visionary Ray Dietrich. First unveiled in 1963, the Firebird™ was Gibson’s first model to feature neck-through-body construction and quickly became a favorite among legendary players across genres, including Johnny Winter, Keith Richards and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, and Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music.
This modern reissue captures the spirit and specifications of the original Firebird I, offering vintage-correct details at an accessible price point. It features a 9-ply mahogany and walnut neck-through-body design, with solid mahogany wings on either side for added resonance and sustain. Authentic Kluson® planetary-gear “banjo” tuners hold tuning at the headstock, while a Wraparound Lightning Bar bridge provides rock-solid stability and exceptional tonal clarity.
True to the stripped-back design of the original 1963 model, this reissue doesn’t skimp on quality. It’s equipped with a Gibson USA Firebird mini humbucker™ featuring Alnico 5 magnets, along with CTS® potentiometers, a Mallory™ capacitor, and a Switchcraft® 1/4" output jack — premium components that ensure the tone is every bit as classic as the look.
Each guitar comes complete with an Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom hardshell case, making this a compelling choice for players and collectors alike.
