The Epiphone John Lennon EJ-160E is a signature electro-acoustic guitar based on the Gibson J-160E model famously used by John Lennon during the early years of The Beatles. Designed to recreate the appearance, feel, and distinctive amplified sound of the original instrument, it combines traditional acoustic construction with an integrated magnetic pickup for both acoustic and electric performance.

The guitar features a laminated spruce top with laminated mahogany back and sides, producing a warm, balanced tone suitable for rhythm playing and singer-songwriter performances. Its round-shoulder dreadnought body delivers good projection and a full midrange response, while the glued-in mahogany neck has a comfortable 1960s SlimTaper profile for smooth playability.

The fingerboard is made from rosewood and is fitted with 20 medium frets and pearloid trapezoid inlays. A 25.5-inch scale length and 12-inch fingerboard radius provide a familiar playing feel for both chord work and lead passages. The adjustable rosewood bridge allows precise action adjustment, while a traditional reverse-belly bridge design reflects the styling of the original instrument.

One of the defining features of the EJ-160E is its concealed magnetic pickup mounted beneath the end of the fingerboard. Unlike a typical undersaddle piezo system, this pickup delivers a warm, slightly compressed amplified sound that closely resembles an electric guitar while retaining much of the instrument's acoustic character. Individual volume and tone controls are mounted on the upper bout, allowing the amplified sound to be adjusted without the need for onboard electronics or a battery.

The guitar is finished in a vintage-style sunburst with a tortoiseshell pickguard, multi-ply body binding, and period-correct cosmetic details inspired by the early 1960s Gibson original. Vintage-style tuners provide stable tuning, while the overall design captures the appearance of the instrument associated with many early Beatles recordings and performances.

The Epiphone John Lennon EJ-160E is well suited to players seeking a guitar that combines acoustic versatility with the distinctive character of a magnetic pickup. Its blend of traditional construction, vintage styling, and unique amplified voice makes it a popular choice for Beatles enthusiasts, collectors, and musicians looking for a classic electro-acoustic instrument with a distinctive sound.
